This came out rather well. I really like the lighting.
There is a whole lot of story behind this picture. Actually as with many of my pictures, the story always comes before the illustration. I won't go into any details here though (and I doubt I will ever write it down). In this particular scene, however, the heroine is poisoned and a mermaid kisses her to cleanse the body of the poison. The reason why the mermaid is covered with corals and all kinds of sea life, is because she's royalty. The corals are a symbol of her class in this particular culture. Other merfolk cultures see these adornments as a rather foppish manner of self-decoration. And then there are also those who use tattoos or self-mutilation as a way of fulfilment. Needless to say that they are considered barbarians.
Time: 20-25 hours Listening: "The picture of Dorian Gray" audio book Special: I managed to get the rock done with very little reference
