So, there we are. I finally finished colouring this little dragon here. I'm more or less pleased with how it came out, even though, as usual, there are still some things I wish I could have done better.

References and things
I did look at some photos of lizards, trees and leaves in order to paint this, but otherwise didn't use any reference whatsoever. I mainly worked with a 5px Photoshop brush and only used a custom brush for some of the texture on the wings.

Time used
I honestly don't know. But it was a lot - or far too much, anyway.

- Keith Parkinson - he used to paint absolutely wonderful dragons!
- Raúl Martín - he is a palaeontological illustrator and a brilliant one at that
- Steve Goad's "Prayer Time" - the details on his dragon paintings are stunning!

Thanks for watching. And thanks so much for the DD!

Sketches, detail shots and the work in progress series are here:

Freshly Hatched by *sythiar is just that; a freshly hatched dragon! It is drawn at a full frontal angle, so we see the twisting and turning of the creature's body as well as giving it lots of depth. ( Suggested by Gwendolyn12 and Featured by Katmomma )

Hey, danke für den Kommentar. Ich habe keine Ahnung mehr, das ist schon so lange her. Vielleicht 40 Stunden, oder so.

Danke vielmals. :) Damals ging es mir noch um die Klicks - heute nicht mehr so sehr.

i love this! it's sooooo cute. (boy or girl?name, if any?)

You know, I never really gave that any thought... I have no idea about it's gender. Neutral, perhaps? And no, it doesn't have a name, either.

awwwww man! maybe you could hold a mini name contest to come up with a name. ex: solstice or phyrelite (fire-light)

Hmm... I don't know. Somehow I don't think it needs a name. Not all things need names. But thanks for the nice input. :)
